Columbus-based Middle West Spirits does not disclose the 18 botanicals used in this spirit distilled from Ohio soft red winter wheat, but they make a gin that is highly unusual. The bite of juniper berry aroma is much softer here, replaced by meadowy floral hints. That’s where the softness ends though, as its flavor is bold and assertive, full of fennel, sweet hay and black pepper with just a whiff of orange peel.
